چکیده
Abstract Odd viscosity arises in systems with time reversal symmetry breaking, which creates non-dissipative effects. One method to probe changes is examine the dynamics of a single particle driven though medium, technique known as active rheology. We show that rheology system odd and no quenched disorder reveals variety novel effects, including speed up increasing density when background medium velocity boost due Magnus effect. In contrast, dissipation-dominated limit monotonically decreases density. also imparts Hall angle particle, both depend strongly on drive. These results should be general other viscosity, skyrmions chiral magnets.

Stochastic optical active rheology.
We demonstrate a stochastic based method for performing active rheology using optical tweezers. By monitoring the displacement of an embedded particle in response to stochastic optical forces, a rapid estimate of the frequency dependent shear moduli of a sample is achieved in the range of 10(-1)-10(3) Hz. We utilize the method to probe linear viscoelastic properties of hydrogels at varied cross...
متن کاملRheology of Active Fluids
An active fluid denotes a viscous suspension of particles, cells, or macromolecules able to convert chemical energy into mechanical work by generating stresses on the microscale. By virtue of this internal energy conversion, these systems display unusual macroscopic rheological signatures, including a curious transition to an apparent superfluid-like state where internal activity exactly compen...
متن کاملDiverging viscosity and soft granular rheology in non-Brownian suspensions.
We use large scale computer simulations and finite-size scaling analysis to study the shear rheology of dense three-dimensional suspensions of frictionless non-Brownian particles in the vicinity of the jamming transition. We perform simulations of soft repulsive particles at constant shear rate, constant pressure, and finite system size and carefully study the asymptotic limits of large system ...
متن کاملExtensional rheology of active suspensions.
A simple model is presented for the effective extensional rheology of a dilute suspension of active particles, such as self-propelled microswimmers, extending previous classical studies on suspensions of passive rodlike particles. Neglecting particle-particle hydrodynamic interactions, we characterize the configuration of the suspension by an orientation distribution, which satisfies a Fokker-P...
متن کاملRheology of active-particle suspensions.
We study the interplay of activity, order, and flow through a set of coarse-grained equations governing the hydrodynamic velocity, concentration, and stress fields in a suspension of active, energy-dissipating particles. We make several predictions for the rheology of such systems, which can be tested on bacterial suspensions, cell extracts with motors and filaments, or artificial machines in a...
